Southern Utah University will welcome Montana and Montana State to Cedar City this week for their volleyball matchups. The Thunderbirds take on the Grizzlies Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. inside the American First Event Center, and the Bobcats on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds took down the Idaho State Bengals last week, three sets to none. SUU controlled the matchup through the first two sets, never trailing or tied until the first point of the third set. Stacey Hone led SUU with nine kills. Raegan Ashby led the Thunderbirds with six blocks as the team outscored the Bengals in blocks 11-3.

Stats and Standings

Southern Utah sits in tenth place in the Big Sky standings with a 2-6 conference record, 6-14 overall. 

The team is third in the conference with 2.31 blocks per set with Ashby leading the charge with 1.11 blocks per set, good for third in the Big Sky. Carissa Richie trails just behind in fourth place with 1.09.

Scouting Report: Montana (7-11, 2-6 BSC)

The Grizzlies are coming off a sweep of Sacramento State in Missoula. Junior Jackie Howell posted a career high 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage.

Montana's win over Sacramento State was just their second win in Big Sky play. The other win came October 7 against Idaho.

Scouting Report: Montana State (9-10, 5-3 BSC)

The Bobcats saw their season high four game win streak come to an end on Saturday in a 1-3 loss to Portland State. The Bobcats and Vikings battled back and forth with 31 ties and 11 lead changes in the matchup. Outside hitter Kira Thomsen led with 15 kills on the night.

Montana State leads the all-time series against SUU 7-6, but the Thunderbirds took home the win in their last matchup in March.

The Thunderbirds and Grizzlies meet on Thursday in the America First Event Center at 6:00 p.m. MST. The Bobcats roll into town Saturday for their 12:00 p.m. MST matchup in Cedar City. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at SUUTBirds.com.
