SUU Sets Out for Idaho and Eastern Washington

Southern Utah University volleyball sets out this week for clashes with the Idaho Vandals and the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Thunderbirds will battle the Vandals on Thursday October 28 and the Eagles on Saturday October 30.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds are coming off an 0-3 sweep at the hands of the Montana State Bobcats. SUU struggled to a .064 hitting percentage but was led by Stacey Hone with eight kills. Bridget Triplett led with two blocks, but the team failed to score points as SUU moved to 2-8 in conference play. 

Stats and Standings

Southern Utah is tied with Idaho State in the Big Sky Standings with a 2-8 record in Big Sky matchups. SUU is 6-16 overall.

The Thunderbirds are third in the conference in team blocks, averaging 2.29 blocks per set. SUU has two players among the top eight in individual blocks with Raegen Ashby in fourth with a 1.14 blocks per set mark and Carissa Richie in seventh with a 1.03 mark. Freshman Calli Johnson is fourth among the Big Sky with 3.79 digs per set. 

Scouting Report: Idaho Vandals (4-15, 1-9 BSC)

Idaho is coming off a 3-0 sweep of Idaho State, their first win since September. Delaney Nicoll led with 10 kills in the contest, with Allison Munday and Nicole Ball adding seven kills a piece. 

The Vandals were previously 0-9 in conference matchups before taking down the Bengals. They sit at the bottom of the Big Sky Standings.

Scouting Report: Eastern Washington Eagles (8-10, 4-6 BSC)

The Eagles are coming off a weekend loss to the Weber State Wildcats, where they were downed in three sets and lost the final period 25-9. Maya McClellan was the top performer for the Eagles with nine kills, two assists, and nine digs.

The team ranks third in the Big Sky in service aces with 1.64 per set, but failed to record one against Weber State.

Match Day Information

The Thunderbirds will matchup with Idaho at 7 p.m. MST in Moscow, Idaho on Thursday. SUU will start play against the Eagles at 1 p.m. MST from Cheney, Washington on Saturday. Both matchups will be available on ESPN+ with live stats available on suutbirds.com
