CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah gymnastics team and head coach Scotty Bauman have announced the addition of seven new Thunderbirds on National Signing Day 2021.
Olivia Orlando
Olivia Orlando will be coming to Cedar City from Randolph, New Jersey where she attends Randolph High School and competes for North Stars Gymnastics.
Orlando is a two-time Level 10 National Qualifier. In 2019, she finished 10th on vault and 11th on bars at the national championships. She is also a four-time Region 7 Regional Qualifier, finishing second on beam, third on bars and vault, and seventh in the all-around in 2019. At the 2017 Regional Championships she was the Floor Event Champion, the third place finisher on bars and in the all-around, as well as the fifth place finisher on beam.
Kennedi McClain
Kennedi McClain will be coming to Southern Utah from Herriman, Utah where she attends Mountain Ridge High School and competes for Olympus Gymnastics.
McClain is a four-time Region 1 Regional Qualifier. In 2019 she finished fourth on floor, seventh on vault and 10th on both bars and the all-around. In 2018 she finished fourth on both vault and bars and finished 11th in the all-around. She finished third on floor, fourth on bars, ninth on vault and 10th in the all-around in 2017.
McClain is the sister of current Flippin' Bird senior Karley McClain.
Kayla Pardue
Kayla Pardue will be joining the Flippin' Birds from Golden, Colorado where she attends Collegiate Charter Academy and competes for Active Athletics.
Pardue is a 2021 and 2019 Level 10 Nationals qualifier. She tied for third on vault in the Junior E Division in 2019. She is also the 2019 Colorado state and Region 3 vault champion scoring back to back 9.9's and was third in the all-around at the 2019 Colorado state meet. In her 2020 and 2019 seasons she placed first on vault in more than half of her competitions.
Trista Goodman
Trista Goodman will be coming to Cedar City from Henderson, Nevada where she attends Odyssey Charter School and competes for Salcianu Elite Academy of Gymnastics.
Goodman was a 2018 KPAC Cup National Elite Qualifier finishing as the Junior Elite bars, beam, and all-around champion. She also competed at the 2018 GK U.S. Classic Jr. Elite Qualifier. In 2021 she was a Level 10 National Qualifier, finished third in the all-around and third on bars in the Senior C Division. She qualified to the Region 1 National Championships and finished fourth on bars and fifth on vault. She was also the Nevada State All-Around Champion as well as the Nevada State Bars Champion.
Kauri Hunsaker
Kauri Hunsaker will be joining the Thunderbird family from Gilbert, Arizona where she attends Perry High School and competes for Arizona Dynamics.
Hunsaker is a three-time Elite Compulsory qualifier (2017, 2018, 2019) and also qualified for the 2018 Junior Olympics Nationals and the 2017 Junior Olympics Western Regionals. She finished second on bars and fifth in the all-around at the regional meet.
Ellie Thomson
Ellie Thomson will be coming to Cedar City from River Heights, Utah where she attends Ridgeline High School and competes for Cache Elite Gymnastics Academy.
Thomson competed under Christina Nye Mozingo, a former athlete of assistant coach Jeff Richards. Thomson is an all-around competitor who excels on vault, bars, and floor.
Camry Miller
Camry Miller is a Cedar City native who will be staying in her hometown to compete for the Thunderbirds. She attends Cedar High School and competes for Barefoot Gymnastics.
Miller will be a force on floor and has been working with Bauman and his coaching staff through gymnastics camps and clubs most of her life.
