CEDAR CITY, Utah- Southern Utah Volleyball took on the Idaho State Bengals Thursday night and took the loss in four sets. The Thunderbirds battled back from a tough first set to win the second set, but couldn't complete the comeback.
SUU took the first three points of the night off of three errors from two errors by the Bengals. ISU took control with a five point to take the lead and separate themselves to a 11-6 score. The Thunderbirds stayed in the game but the Bengals finished the set with five points to secure the first period.Â
Southern Utah took the first points of the second period. The two teams traded off points with neither taking more than a three point lead until the Thunderbirds went on their run. With SUU down 13-14, the T-Birds scored six straight points then finished the set 25-19, outscoring the Bengals 12-5Â in the timeframe.
SUU did their best to come home with a win but Idaho State was able to escape with wins in the final two periods by four points in the third set and two in fourth. SUU put up four straight points with the game on the line in the fourth set, but a Rachel Warren kill ended the Thunderbirds' night.Â
Stacey Hone followed up her 19-kill Senior Night performance against Portland State with a 15-kill game. She added two blocks with her .412 hitting percentage to lead the Thunderbirds. Rylee Achtzehn added 10 kills and a .250 hitting percentage on the night.
The Thunderbirds are back on the road Saturday when they take on the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden, Utah. The match will tip off at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. Live stats are available at suutbirds.com
