MOSCOW, Idaho - The Southern Utah volleyball team lost their second Big Sky match of the season Monday night, falling to Idaho 14-25, 20-25, 8-25.
Stacey Hone and Andreanna McKee led the Thunderbirds in hitting with five kills each. McKee hit .235 and had two aces on the night. Sarah Gasper had nine assists and 10 digs and Mckenzie Dowell had two solo blocks.
The T-Birds fought hard in the first two sets, holding significant leads in both. The Vandals put together three different 4-0 runs in the first set to put distance between themselves and the Thunderbirds, eventually closing out the set 25-14.
Idaho opened set two with a 5-0 run, but the Thunderbirds answered with a 7-1 run of their own to take a 7-6 lead. There were five more lead changes in the set until the set was tied at 18-18. The Vandals then went on a 7-2 scoring run to close out the set 25-20.
Set three was all Vandals after Southern Utah scored the first point. A 6-0 scoring run followed by a 9-0 run made it 16-3 Idaho. The Thunderbirds would only score five more times before the Vandals closed out the third and final set at 25-8.
The Thunderbirds will return home to host Montana starting on Sunday February 7 inside the America First Event Center.
