CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah men's basketball team returned from a two week hiatus Saturday afternoon with a 110-58 win over Benedictine University at Mesa.
The Thunderbirds are now 12-3 on the season.
Marquis Moore led all scorers with 18 points and both Aanen Moody and Dee Barnes had 15 points. Damani McEntire led all rebounders with nine.
Eight different Thunderbirds scored double-digits and the T-Bird scored 66 of their 110 points. Southern Utah shot 55.6 percent as a team while holding the Redhawks to 33.8 percent.
The Redhawks scored the first six points in this one and even kept the Thunderbirds off the board for the first minute and a half of play. Maizen Fausett finally got the T-Birds going and the Mesa lead didn't last long from there.
Southern Utah took their first lead of the game at the 12:33 mark on a three-pointer from Harrison Butler to make it 16-14. They would go on a 15-0 scoring run not too much later to open up a 16-point lead with 9:03 remaining in the half.
By the time halftime came around it was 53-33 Thunderbirds as they closed out the half with seven straight points from Tevian Jones.
The Thunderbirds dominated the second half, allowing just nine buckets over the entire 20 minutes of play. By the 12:28 mark, they had built up a 30-point lead and with 4:00 to go they had pushed that lead to 40 points. Nick Fleming broke the 100-point barrier for the Thunderbirds with 2:57 to play with an easy layup that made it 101-55.
They would close out the game on a 7-0 run for the 110-58 victory.
The Thunderbirds will be back on the court on Tuesday February 9 against San Diego Christian College.
