Thunderbirds Fall to Bears In Semifinals of Big Sky Tournament

GREELEY, Colo. - The Southern Utah volleyball team's 2021 spring season came to an end Thursday night in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament, as they fell to the No. 2-seeded Northern Colorado Bears 0-3 (14-25, 11-25, 14-25).

Bridget Triplett and Elisa Lago led the Thunderbirds with four kills each while Triplett hit .286 on the night. Corrin Peterson had 13 assists and Mckenzie Dowell and Lago picked up one block apiece.

The Thunderbirds hit just .027 while the Bears hit .389 in the match. Northern Colorado also had 13 service aces and five blocks with no blocking errors.

The Bears won all three sets by 11 or more points and closed out all three on large scoring runs.

The biggest lead for the T-Birds came in the second set when they led 3-1, before the Bears went on a 9-2 scoring run and never looked back.

Southern Utah finishes the season with a 9-8 record and a .529 winning percentage, the highest in program history. This is just the second time the Thunderbirds have finished a season with a winning record and the first time since 2010 when they finished 16-15.
