ST GEORGE, Utah - The Southern Utah volleyball team traveled to St. George Saturday night for a rematch with Dixie State. This time they could not come out with the victory, falling to the Trailblazers 1-3 (26-28, 25-23, 14-25, 11-25).
Ronnie Robinson led all attackers with 12 kills. She also had 14 digs and one block assist. Calli Johnson had 19 digs, Molly McDermott had 29 assists, and Raegen Ashby had four blocks.
The first set was all Thunderbirds until match point when the Trailblazers went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 25-24 lead. The teams then entered into a battle that was reminiscent of the fifth set from the night before, but this time DSU would come out with the set win at 28-26. Dixie State won nine of the final 11 points of the set.
Dixie State kept rolling into the second set and would find themselves up five near the middle of the set. With the score at 17-12 in favor of the Trailblazers, it would seem that they scored the next point, but a challenge from head coach Kacey Nady would flip the point, resulting in six straight points and a huge swing in momentum in favor of the Thunderbirds. They would go on to win the set 25-23 and tie the match up at 1-1.
The next two sets were all Trailblazers as the T-Birds had a negative hitting percentage the rest of the match and only scored 25 total points. Dixie State hit .259 as a team over the final two sets and cruised to a 3-1 victory.
The Thunderbirds will now set their sights on Big Sky play which opens next Thursday against Eastern Washington.
