Thunderbird T&F Heads to Washington compete in the UW Invitational

CEDAR CITY, Utah– The Southern Utah University track and field program is sending its distance runners to the UW Invitational this weekend on Friday, January 28th through Saturday, January 29th. 

LAST TIME OUT 

SUU had another weekend full of strong performances at the Air Force Invitational and the NAU Lumberjack Team Challenge.

AIR FORCE INVITATIONAL

Two Thunderbird heptathlon athletes competed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs Thursday. 

Junior Seadra Hamilton finished in sixth place with a new personal best of 3,413 total points. 

On the men's side, Trenton Mauer finished in fifth place with 2,791 total points. 

NAU LUMBERJACK TEAM CHALLENGE 

Elizabeth White highlighted the entire weekend for the Thunderbirds. White finished first in the long jump and broke the school record in the event with a leap of 19' 9 ¾". 

Emma Nwachukwu also had a solid performance. Nwachukwu finished first in the women's weight throw with a throw of 61- 8 ½". 

Freshman Veronika Vallova finished fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5'6". She is now fifth all-time in the SUU Indoor record books in the event. 

For the men's team, Nate Osterstock led the way giving another outstanding performance in the mile. Overstock finished in third place with a final time of 4:05.06. After altitude conversion, that reduced his time to 3:56.16, which breaks his record from last weekend. This finish strengthens his hold on second all-time in school history, and he is now ranked fourth in the country overall. 

 Coleman Cragun grabbed a second-place finish in the 3000-Meters race with a time of 8:48.45. 

Senior Payton Riggs earned a third-place earned third place in the 600 Meters with a time of 1:23.7. Riggs is now ranked third all-time in the SUU indoor record books. 

ATHLETES TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND:

Alison Pray

Pray had a dominant day at the Idaho Snake River Open. Alison won the women's mile with a time of 4:46, which ranked her second all-time in school history. She followed up that performance with a second-place finish in the 800 meters race. 

Coleman Cragun

Cragun has had several top finishes this season. At ISU Snake River Open, Cragun earned a third-place finish in the mile and a first place in the 3000 Meters race. This past weekend at NAU, Coleman earned another second-place finish in the 3000 Meters with a time of 8:48.45.
