SEATTLE, Wash– The Southern Utah University men's and women's distance programs concluded competition Saturday at the UW Invitational with several personal bests and record-breaking performances.
The highlight of the weekend came from senior Alison Pray in the women's invited mile. Pray finished 7th in the mile and set a new SUU school record with a blistering time of 4:39.55. This edges out the previous record of 4:39.82.
SUU also had three other female athletes run new personal best times in the mile.
Madisan DeBos finished in 27th in the mile with a time of 4:55.66. Jordyn Bartolomucci ran a time of 4:59.03 to finish in 33rd, and Haley Tanne followed up right behind in 34th with a time of 4:59.25.
On the men's side, Nate Osterstock continued to compile new records. Osterstock ran to a new personal record in the 3000 Meters race with a time of 8:01.26. This now puts him 4th all-time in the event for SUU. He also followed up that performance with an 11th place finish in the mile with a time of 4:01.35.
Freshman Coleman Cragun was the lone Thunderbird runner to compete on Friday. Cragun made his debut in the 5000 Meter race and secured a 16th-place finish with a time of 14:34.08.
Travis Feeny also put himself into the SUU record books in his debut in the 3000 Meters race. Feeny ran a blistering 8:12.93 time to finish in 32nd place and put him 8th all-time in the SUU record books. Feeny followed up with a strong finish in the mile with a time of 4:20.15 and a 41st place finish.
Max Spence and Jacob Francis also gave solid performances in the men's mile. Spence finished with a 33rd place finish and time of 4:01.35, and Francis grabbed 42nd place with a time of 4:21.22.
Thunderbird Track and field will be back in action this next weekend as they travel back to Northern Arizona to compete in the NAU Ronn Mann Classic. The meet will run from Friday, February 4th to Saturday, February 5th.
