Utah Tech comes into Saturday's match with a 10-8 overall record.

The Trailblazers share an identical 4-5 conference record with the Thunderbirds, and sit one spot behind SUU in the Western Athletic Conference standings due to a head-to-head tiebreaker.

The top eight teams in the WAC will earn a spot in the conference tournament. With each team hovering at the same spot in the standings, this matchup is a critical one for both squads.

Since being defeated by the Thunderbirds earlier in the season, Utah Tech has played some stellar competition. The Trailblazers threatened to give UTRGV their first conference loss, pushing the Vaqueros to five sets. Utah Tech also posted an impressive win over New Mexico State, winning on the road 3-1. Their most recent outing was against Seattle University, where the Trailblazers won convincingly in four sets.

Whittnee Nihipali has continued to be a scoring threat for Utah Tech, averaging 3.67 points per set. Another player on the offensive end to watch out for is Chayse Daugherty, who tallies 2.28 kills a set. Taela Laufiso has kept up her dominant play at setter, recording 8.56 assists and 2.3 digs each set.

The Thunderbirds will look to earn a win on the road and improve their odds at making the conference tournament.
