CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Almanac, a comprehensive guide to college basketball written by analysts from The Field of 68, Verbal Commits, Heat Check CBB and Three Man Weave has released its 2022-23 season preview, and Southern Utah University men's basketball players Tevian Jones and Maizen Fausett eached received significant preseason recognition.
Jones, a fifth-year senior who has earned All-Big Sky honors the past two seasons, was chosen as a Preseason First Team All-WAC honoree and was voted by an anonymous poll of league coaches as the player who scares them the most in the entire conference.
Jones has been an offensive nightmare for opponents the past two years, averaging 16.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game throughout the 2020-21 season, as well as posting averages of 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season.
Fausett, another fifth-year senior who has earned All-Big Sky honors the past two seasons, was selected as a Preseason Second Team All-WAC honoree by The Almanac.
Fausett has been a force for Southern Utah for the past four years. He ranks in the top-10 in Southern Utah Basketball history for scoring (1,112 points) and is currently the all-time leading rebounder (713).
As a team, the Thunderbirds were picked to finish fifth in the conference, and they will look to exceed those expectations and compete for a WAC Championship in their first season as a member of the conference.
