CEDAR CITY, Utah - National Signing Day is upon us, and Coach Don Don Williams and the Thunderbird Softball team are excited to announce this year's crop of early signees. Southern Utah will add four outstanding student-athletes to the team for next season. All four of these student-athletes will come to Cedar City from California.
Kassidy Munoz, C/1B, Corona Angels/ La Quinta High School
Kassidy Munoz plays catcher and first base both at her high school, La Quinta, and for one of the premiere softball clubs in California, the Corona Angels. Munoz helped La Quinta to a perfect league record going 15-0 and earning a spot in the CIF championship tournament.
Arianna Ramirez, 3B/1B, Corona Angels/ Millikan High School
Ramirez will join the Thunderbirds having spent the last two seasons dominating the diamond for her high school team and leading them to back-to-back Moore League titles and the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship game. Last June, Ramirez was named the Press-Telegram Softball Dream Team Player of the Year. She had a .432 batting average, 1.209 on-base plus slugging percentage, .757 slugging percentage, and 26 RBIs last season for the Rams.
Taralyn Ollison, OF, Corona Angels/ Vista Murrieta High School
Ollison is a natural lefty who can hit, slap, or bunt and has the speed to get on base regularly. She shows a lot of range in the outfield and will track down fly balls with ease. Ollison led her travel team in batting average (.600) and slugging percentage(.763).
Emily Delgado, P, Athletics Mercado/ Santiago High School
Emily was part of a travel team that won the Alliance National Championship in August and continues to win each tournament they compete in. Delgado was also named to the All-Tournament team.
Ramirez, Ollison and Munoz all compete for the Corona Angels, one of the top club teams in the country, The Angels are currently ranked as the #11 team in the country according to usclubrankings.com.
Coach Don Don Williams said of the recruiting class, "This class brings athleticism, speed, explosive bats, competitiveness, and high softball IQ to our program. We are so excited to have them join our T-Bird family. Not only are they going to help us take our program to the next level, but they are also great people with a solid foundation." The Thunderbird softball team will begin competing in February with the UNLV tournament. Look for the complete schedule to be released in early December.
