Thunderbirds Drop Season Opener to No. 9 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Southern Utah University Softball team fell to host school Arizona in their opening game of the Mike Candrea Classic, with a final score of 22-1.

The Thunderbirds drew first blood in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a Reilly Williams solo home run.

The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the second by hitting two home runs of their own, amassing ten runs in the frame.

The hot bats continued throughout the game for the Wildcats, as they totaled 18 hits in the contest.

Wildcat ace Hanah Bowen turned in a dominating performance on the mound, as the T-Birds struggled at the plate without Josey White, their top returning offensive threat from 2021.
