BOZEMAN, MONT– Southern Utah University track and field athletes Alison Pray and Joren McKeever closed out the Thunderbirds 2022 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships by winning titles in their respective events. They also clinched a seventh-place finish for both the men's and women's programs.
Pray showed her superiority once again in the women's mile. Pray bolted to an electrifying time of 4:56.51 to claim the title for the Thunderbirds. She also followed up that performance with a ninth-place finish in the 3000 Meters with a time of 9:54.55.
Mckeever had an outstanding day in the men's high jump. After trading jumps, back and forth with his other competitors, Mckeever won the event with a leap of 6'11". This jump also put him in fifth place all-time in the SUU record books.
Senior Emma Nwachukwu finished in second place in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 62'4". This throw also put her 2nd all-time in the SUU record books in the event.
Nate Osterstock blazed to two top-three times in the 3000 Meters and the mile. Osterstock scampered to a thrilling third-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:04.79, just narrowly missing out on first-place by tenths of a second. He followed up that performance by finishing in second place in the 3000 Meters with a time of 8:11.92.
The men's 4x400 Meter relay team fought their way to a third-place finish. Dylan Gibson, Noah Bringhurst, Nelson Douglas, and Max Morley surged to a time of 3:17.53.
Morley also finished 8th overall in the 400 Meter Dash with a strong time of 49.99.
Travis Feeny and Santiago Gaitan earned top-ten finishes in the mile. Feeny grabbed ninth place with a time of 4:13.50, while Gaitan finished right behind in tenth with a time of 4:13.55.
Jarom Smith finished in 10th place in the high jump with a leap of 6'4 3/4".
In the women's triple jump, Emily Wilson grabbed a ninth-place finish with a jump of 38 3'1/4".
The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished in seventh place. Seadra Hamilton, Jentry Skidmore, Savannah Nielson, and Maya Benjamin galloped to a time of 3:59.33.
Aviry Stratton and Madisan DeBos also had strong finishes in the women's mile. Stratton finished in 11th with a 5:06.07, and DeBos finished in 14th with a 5:07.25.
In the end, Northern Arizona walked away with the team victory on the men's side, with Idaho finishing in second and host Montana State finishing in third.
Northern Arizona also claimed the title on the women's side, with Idaho State finishing second and Idaho taking third.
