CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University head soccer coach Kai Edwards has announced the addition of Sally Ziemer as the team's newest volunteer assistant coach.
Ziemer comes to Cedar City by way of Santa Rosa Junior College where she spent the past season as an assistant coach. Ziemer has also served as the head coach of Santa Rosa United Soccer at the club level since 2019, and as an assistant coach on the Sonoma Academy girls varsity team since 2017. She will serve in her role as volunteer assistant through the summer and transition to a graduate assistant position before the start of the fall season.
"We are pleased to add a person with Sally's experience," Edwards said. "She has experience at the club, high school and junior college levels along with being surrounded by some of the best soccer minds in the country at Sonoma County. She will add great value to on-field training and the growth of team dynamics."
Ziemer received her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Sonoma State University in December of 2021, and also played on the women's soccer team for the Sea Wolves. She played for Sonoma State after a decorated high school career at Sonoma Academy where she was named NCS Scholar Athlete all four seasons in addition to being named the league's MVP in 2016.
Ziemer also spent time as a head coach with Kinder Kickz Soccer youth organization since 2009 and has worked in multiple gyms and fitness centers. She recently received her US Soccer D License.
The Thunderbirds will continue their spring schedule Saturday when they travel down to St. George for a double header against Dixie State and Westminster. Kickoff against the Trailblazers is slated for 10 a.m. MT, and the Westminster match will follow at noon.
