CEDAR CITY, Utah– The Southern Utah University Track and Field program posted a weekend full of several high marks and new personal records from Friday, April 8, through Saturday, April 9, at the Weber State Spring Classic, Utah State Invitational, and the Utah Spring Classic.
SUU added the Weber State Spring Classic and the Utah State Invitational to their weekend slate Friday before competing in the Utah Spring Classic on Saturday.
WEBER STATE SPRING CLASSIC
Elizabeth White continued her superior ways in the long jump. After breaking the school record two weeks ago at UCLA with a jump of 20'4, White came back this weekend and recorded a monstrous jump of 20'9 ½" to win the long jump and break the record again. This mark also currently ranks her 13th in the entire country. White followed this performance with a third-place finish in the 100 meters with a 12.23.
Maya Benjamin and Ronnie Walker ran to new personal bests in the 100 meters. Benjamin finished in seventh place with a 12.32, and Walker came in just after in ninth with a 12.34.
Two other Thunderbirds recorded personal bests in the long jump. Jentry Skidmore leaped to an impressive mark of 18'6.5' to take fourth place in the event, while Emily Wilson grabbed a seventh-place finish with a new personal record jump of 18'1.25' to put her seventh all-time for SUU in the event.
In the 1500 Meters, Southern Utah distance runners came away with several personal records, with Madisan DeBos highlighting all of them with a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:28.30 to put her ninth all-time for SUU.
Freshman Ajia Hughes had an outstanding day winning the high jump with a 5'6 ¾".
Iana-Michovani Graham blistered to a new personal best in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a 14.52 to finish in fifth place in the event.
On the men's side, Joren McKeever earned his second top performance in the high jump this outdoor season. McKeever leaped to a new personal record with a 7'¼ to finish win the event and push him into third place all-time in the Thunderbirds record books.
Nate Osterstock won the 1500 Meters with a 3:42.58 to claim the top spot in the Big Sky in the race, ranking him 22nd in the entire country.
Three Thunderbirds blazed to new personal and season bests in the 100 Meters. Ricardo White fought his way onto the podium, finishing in third place with a time of 10.81 to earn his best time in the race this year, while Nelson Douglas came in at sixth place with a time of 10.93 to give him a season-high. Freshman Devan Hill earned a new personal record in the race with an 11.03 to take 12th place.
Nelson Douglas grabbed a third-place finish in the 400 Meters with a 48.67.
UTAH STATE INVITATIONAL
Senior Dominick Vasquez earned a season's best in the hammer throw with a 162'3 to finish in fourth place.
Bronis MacDougall had a solid performance this weekend in the javelin. MacDougall launched a 183'9" to take second place.
Three Thunderbird women also grabbed several personal records in the hammer throw. Rebecca Hazelet took fifth place overall with a 168'3", improving her hold on 9th place in the SUU record books. Jessica Jericoff grabbed eighth with a 159-0', while Tia Dee Christiansen won her flight and finished ninth overall with a 152'5".
Jackalyn Hatch recorded a new personal record in the javelin with a 123'7".
UTAH SPRING CLASSIC
After dominating women's long jump Friday in Weber, Elizabeth White lasered to a new personal record time of 11.98 to take first overall. Ronnie Walker topped her 100 Meter, personal record time that she set on Friday, with a fourth-place finish and time of 12.22.
Emily Wilson and Ajia Hughes took the top spots in the triple jump. Wilson won the event with a 38'3 ¼, while Hughes jumped to a personal record of 38'2 to take second place, pushing her into second all-time in the SUU record books after Wilson, who holds the record.
All of the women's 200-meter runners earned new personal best times. Iana-Michovani Graham finished in fourth place with a time of 25.52, Ronnie Walker finished in fifth place with a 25.58, Elizabeth White grabbed eighth with a 25.81, and Maya Benjamin right behind in ninth place with a 25.82.
Dylan Gibson ran a personal best in the 200 Meter time of 21.76 to earn third place overall.
Hunter Morganson and Trenton Maurer battled their way into the top three in the shotput. Morganson launched a throw of 47'5 to take second place and Maurer grabbed third place with a 45'5.
Nate Osterstock dominated the 800 Meters finishing in second with a time of 1:52.93. He just missed out on first place by two seconds.
