Haley Tanne Breaks School Record during Second Weekend of Competition

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah University Track and Field team began their second week of competition this weekend at UVU Collegiate Invitational and the Stanford Invitational. Several thunderbirds earned personal bests over the weekend, but distance runner Haley Tanne highlighted all Thunderbirds by setting a new SUU school record.

 STANFORD INVITATIONAL

Tanne made her season debut in the 3000 Meter steeplechase and ran to a blazing time of 10.28.84 to crush the previous school record of 10.33.25 and win the event, by outrunning all of her other competitors by seven seconds.

In that same race, senior Madisan DeBos clocked a 10.44.71 to earn fourth place in the event, pushing her into fourth all-time in the event for the Thunderbirds.

On the men's side, Nate Osterstock continued his infamous ways in the 5k. Osterstock ran to a new personal best of 13:40.21 to earn 12th place while putting a stronger hold on his third-place position in the event in the SUU record books.

In the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, Jacob Francis ran to a first-place finish in his section with a time of 9:03.03.

UVU COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

After a strong debut last weekend in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, Nethaneel Taylor followed that performance up this week with a strong finish in the 800 Meters. Taylor posted a time of 1:56.24, which earned him sixth place in the event.

On the women's side, Veronika Vallova battled her way to an outstanding third-place finish in the Javelin with a mark of 143'-10.5". Vallova also moved into third all-time in the event for SUU.
