PROVO, Utah – Southern Utah University's Track and field program closed competition at the BYU Invitational Saturday, and Emily Wilson broke her own school record in the triple jump.
Wilson leaped to a monstrous mark of 38' 10 ½" to break the school record she set earlier this year at the Idaho State Mountain Games and outjump all other competitors by nearly seven feet. Wilson also grabbed sixth place in the long jump with an 18'3.
Emma Nwachukwu secured her first win of the outdoor season. Nwachukwu launched a 198' 2 ¾" to win the event and move into second place all-time for the Thunderbirds.
In the steeplechase, Madisan DeBos ran to a blazing time of 10:50.29 to win the event and push her into fourth all-time for SUU.
After an electric opening to the weekend in the heptathlon on Thursday, Jentry Skidmore followed up with a seventh-place finish in the long jump with an 18'3.
Quinn Hagerman ran a blistering time of 18:28.10 to grab seventh in the 5000 Meters.
Veronika Vallova had another solid finish in the javelin, finishing in eighth place with a 125' 2 3/4"
On the men's side, after earning a personal best in the 800 Meters last weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Payton Riggs followed up this week with a third-place finish with a 1:54.56. Riggs just narrowly missed out on a first-place by two seconds.
Clayton Adams and Nethaneel Taylor also finished in the top ten in the 800. Adams grabbed eighth place with a 1:56.76, and Taylor was right behind in ninth with a 1:57.15.
Allan Ahannou fought his way to fifth place in the long jump with a 21' 9 ¾".
Devan Hill earned 12th place in the 100 Meter with a 10.96.
Three Thunderbirds ran to top finishes in the mile. Santiago Gaitan earned his first top-five finish this outdoor season, taking fifth place with a time of 4:13.64. Max Spence finished close behind in eighth with a time of 4:15.51, and Travis Feeny secured eleventh place with a 4:19.82.
Dillion Petty took seventh place in the hammer throw with a 152' 2 ¾".
The T-Birds will now wrap up their outdoor regular season at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational and the Idaho State Bengal Invitational on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30.
