Southern Utah MBB Announces Signing of Wyoming Transfer Deng Dut

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University men's basketball team and head coach Todd Simon have announced the addition of Deng Dut, a 6'4" guard who spent the past season with Wyoming.

"Deng is a smart and versatile point guard with an ability to make those around him better," said Simon. "He has won at every stop along the way. His character and drive to be the best he can be make him a great fit for us."

Dut will join Drake Allen as the second player to transfer into the Southern Utah men's basketball program ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Dut saw action in 12 games with the Cowboys last season as a member of a team that received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

Prior to his time at Wyoming, Dut was a First Team All-American selection at the College of Southern Idaho where he averaged 14.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 50 percent shooting from the field. Dut led his team to a conference championship and number three overall seed at the NJCAA National Tournament.

Dut ranked sixth in the nation in three-point percentage at CSI, shooting a blazing 48 percent from deep.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Dut attended Simonds Catholic College Prep high school, where he led his team to the Gold Medal Victorian Championship three separate times throughout his career.

Dut has two years of college eligibility remaining, and with starting guards John Knight III and Dre Marin graduating, will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on the SUU backcourt.

Southern Utah continues to bolster their lineup in preparation for the 2022-23 season, where they will look to continue the greatest stretch of success the program has seen in its Division I history. Southern Utah has put together back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since transitioning to DI, and secured the second highest win mark in program history this past season.

The Thunderbirds will make the transition to the Western Athletic Conference ahead of the 2022-23 season.
