CEDAR CITY, Utah– The Southern Utah University track and field team will wrap up their outdoor regular season at the Payton Jordan Invitational and the Idaho State Bengal Invitational on Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30.

Emily Wilson highlighted the weekend for the thunderbirds by breaking her own school record. Wilson Wilson leaped to a monstrous mark of 38' 10 ½" to break the record she set earlier this year at the Idaho State Mountain Games and outjump all other competitors by nearly seven feet. Wilson also grabbed sixth place in the long jump with an 18'3.
Emma Nwachukwu secured her first win of the outdoor season. Nwachukwu launched a 198' 2 ¾" to win the event and move into second place all-time for the Thunderbirds.
Jentry Skidmore kicked off the opening day of competition for the T-Birds by moving into third all-time in the SUU record books and finishing second overall for the event. She posted a score of 5,000 points, setting personal bests in the 100m hurdle (14.88), shot put (34'-025), and javelin throw (142'-2.75).
Seadra Hamilton came in right behind Skidmore, finishing third in the event and moving into fourth all-time in SUU history for the heptathlon by posting a score of 4801. Hamilton set four personal bests throughout the event, including the 100m hurdle (15.17), high jump (5'-1.75), shot put (37'-4.50"), and 800m (2:18.07).
In the steeplechase, Madisan DeBos ran to a blazing time of 10:50.29 to win the event and push her into fourth all-time for SUU.
On the men's side, after earning a personal best in the 800 Meters last weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Payton Riggs followed up this week with a third-place finish with a 1:54.56. Riggs just narrowly missed out on a first-place by two seconds.
Trenton Maurer moved to fourth all-time in the Southern Utah record books for the decathlete. Maurer recorded two personal records in the pole vault (13'-1-5'), and javelin throw (172'-3.75'). Maurer took fifth place in the event.
Clayton Adams and Nethaneel Taylor also finished in the top ten in the 800. Adams grabbed eighth place with a 1:56.76, and Taylor was right behind in ninth with a 1:57.15.
ATHLETES TO WATCH
Women's 3k Steeplechase: Haley Tanne, Sariah Hernandez, Kathryn Kelly, Madisan DeBos
These four athletes have pushed SUU into 11th in the entire country in the steeplechase. Haley Tanne leads the group after breaking the school record in the event with a 10:17.29 at the Mount Sac Relays. Madisan DeBos follows with a time of 10:50.29, Sariah Hernandez comes in right behind with a 10:57.14, and Kathryn Kelly rounds out the four with a time of 11:01.22.
Santiago Gaitan: Distance
Gaitan has had a solid year for the Thunderbirds. In his opening season with SUU, he put together several solid performances. He finished in tenth place at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in the mile and is coming off his top finish this year, finishing in fifth at BYU.
