POCATELLO, Idaho - Jentry Skidmore saved her best for last, turning in an incredible day two performance to soar up the leaderboard in the women's heptathlon and secure a second-place finish at the Big Sky Track and Field Championships.
Skidmore started off the day by recording the second-best mark out of all eleven competitors in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 5.73 meters. She followed with a solid outing in the javelin throw, launching a throw of 40.07 meters, good for third-best in the event. Skidmore then closed out the heptathlon by shattering her previous personal record in the 800m, running a blistering time of 2:23.19. Skidmore amassed 5,190 total points throughout the event, moving her up to sole possession of second place in the SUU track and field record books for the heptathlon. She earned eight team points for the second-place finish.
Seadra Hamilton fell two spots on the leaderboard on the second day of action to claim sixth place for the event; but, she managed to set a new personal best in the long jump (5.35 meters), and win the 800m run, recording an impressive time of 2:20.80 to beat all other competitors. Hamilton set a new personal best for the heptathlon, totaling 4,886 points, which is good for fourth-best in SUU track and field history. Hamilton received three team points for her performance.
In the men's decathlon, Trenton Maurer battled through an elbow injury to take eighth place. Mauerer had a strong showing through the first three events, reaching as high as the top-three on the leaderboard, but was forced to compete in the javelin throw with his left hand due to an injury in his right elbow. Maurer refused to let the injury stop him from finishing, as he completed the javelin throw and closed out the day with the 1500m run. He totaled 6,068 points for the entire event, as the eighth-place finish earned SUU one more team point, giving them 12 total points through the first two days of action.
