CEDAR CITY, Utah– After kicking off their 2022 season nearly two weeks ago, the Southern Utah University men's and women's cross country teams will finally be back in action this weekend at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, September 17th.
LAST TIME OUT
The Thunderbirds began their season at the UVU Invitational on Thursday, September 1st. Both teams had multiple underclassmen give strong start performances in their opening races, with the women finishing in third place overall and the men taking fifth place.
On the women's side, several runners finished right next to each other in the 5K, led by Freshman Addie Dalton, who took 26th place with a time of 20:43.42. Sophomore Gentry Pierce was just seconds behind, grabbing 27th on the leaderboard with a time of 20:46.5, and Freshman Katy Kelley claimed 28th place with a 20:48.8.
Rounding out the Thunderbird lineup were Freshman Sammi Stewart and Madison Patrick. Stewart took 31st place clocking a time of 21:01.3, and Patrick recorded a 22:20.8 to take 46th.
Leading the charge for the Thunderbird men in the 5K was Neethaneel Taylor. Taylor blazed to a time of 16:40.7 to earn 18th place overall. Following Taylor was Freshman Lanse Larsen, who recorded a time of 17:03.8 to take 25th place.
Coming in next for the Thunderbirds was Clayton Adams and Bowen Martin. Adams finished in 33rd with a time of 17:26.17, while Bowen Martin wasn't too far behind, securing 34th place with a 17:31.6. Closing out the race for Southern Utah was AJ Rowland taking 45th place, compiling an 18:03.6.
UC Riverside Invitational
SUU is set to battle against WAC programs; California Baptist, Grand Canyon, and Utah Tech, along with several other power five teams, including USC, California, and Hawaii.
The race will take place at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. The women will get things started at 8:15 A.M. MT, directly followed by the men at 8:50 A.M. MT.
