Last Time Out
Southern Utah fell short in all three matches at the Weber State Tournament last week. Despite this, the T-Birds showcased many flashes of talent that they will look to carry into the match against the Titans on Saturday.
On the offensive side of the game, Sophomore Molly McDermott proved to be a force to be reckoned with, as she averaged a team-high 9.3 kills per game. Junior Makenzie Templeton also showed her offensive prowess with 7.6 kills per match, highlighted by a match against San Jose State where she reached double digit kills (10). The Thunderbirds will need to replicate this offensive output if they look to come out with a win this weekend.
Anchoring the defense was Junior Macy Short, who recorded nine digs per match. Sophomore Carissa Richie also proved to be outstanding on the defensive end, as she totaled three blocks per match. Containing the Titans offense with great defense will be instrumental to the Thunderbirds success.
The T-Birds look to build upon this experience and play at the top of their game in front of the home fans. Southern Utah will need to play their best if they look to beat California State Fullerton, who has had an impressive start to the season.
Scouting Report
The Titans split their first two games, defeating Abilene Christian convincingly (3-0) but falling to New Mexico State (1-3). They are slated to play Utah Tech on Friday evening, before ending their trip to the beehive state with a showdown against the Thunderbirds.
Julia Crawford has been scorching hot for the Titans, averaging a whopping 14 kills per match. Another key part of California State Fullerton's success is Nadia Koanui, who recorded a team high 17.5 digs in each of the first two contests.
The Titans are coached by Nicole Polster, who led them last season as a rookie head coach to their best record in almost a decade. In her second season, Polster will aim to continue this upward trajectory and give California State Fullerton their best season in quite a while.
