Tournament Preview
To start the tournament, Southern Utah will play Eastern Washington. Led by first year head coach Jon Haruguchi, the Eagles come into the tournament with a 2-3 record. Junior Sage Brustad has been a huge factor for the Eagles offense, posting 15 kills per game. Eastern Washington is projected to finish seventh overall in the Big Sky Conference this year.
The Thunderbird's second matchup of the day comes against Boise State. The Broncos have had an impressive start to the season, opening with a 4-1 record. Lauren Ohlinger has been huge for Boise State thus far, averaging 12 kills per match. The Broncos last game saw them take down Idaho State in commanding fashion (3-1). Boise State has been on a roll lately, and they look to carry this success into the tournament.
The tournament will come to a close on Saturday with an exciting matchup with Butler. The Bulldogs started the season hot with a four game win streak, but the previous outings have seen them drop the last two matches. Headlining the offense for Butler is Sophomore Mariah Grunze, who is averaging over 11 assists a game, and Freshman Cora Taylor, who has averaged nearly 23 assists per game.
An exciting weekend of SUU volleyball will see the Thunderbirds challenge some very talented teams at the Boise State Classic.
