CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University is proud to announce that one of its own, Zach Mitchell, a dynamic wide receiver, has been included in the prestigious 2023 Stats Perform Jerry Rice Award Watch List. This annual award recognizes the top freshman player in college football's Division I subdivision and is presented by FedEx Ground. The Jerry Rice Award, now in its 13th season, honors the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice and has previously been awarded to notable players such as Cooper Kupp, Chase Edmonds, Trey Lance, and Shedeur Sanders.

Zach Mitchell's remarkable performance and standout abilities have garnered him a well-deserved place among the 22 FCS freshmen nominated to this midseason watch list, which includes both true and redshirt freshmen from various conferences across the nation. With impressive statistics that include 416 receiving yards, a 13.00 yards per catch average, 4 touchdowns, and a long reception of 30 yards, Mitchell has quickly established himself as a key player for the Thunderbirds.
