ABILENE, Texas - The Southern Utah University women's volleyball team competed against Abilene Christian on Thursday, Oct. 5, falling in three sets. The Thunderbirds move to 4-11 on the season and 0-5 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in WAC play.

"The goal for tonight was to stop their outsides and middles while finding a way to generate more kills on our side. We did a good job slowing down two of their four solid attackers; just need to score on our side."

MATCH RECAP
The Wildcats came out strong to start the first set, building a 14-6 lead. ACU stayed hot, extending its lead to 24-12. Teniyah Leuluai led a late comeback attempt for the Thunderbirds, sparking a 6-0 run with three serving aces to make the score 24-18. ACU would go on to take the set 25-18.
Abilene Christian took a 15-8 advantage in set two. Madison Walker and Spasojevic led the Thunderbirds with a pair of kills apiece, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats claimed the second set 25-16.
Molly McDermott delivered two kills to help Southern Utah take a 2-1 lead to start set three. Abilene Christian used an 11-2 run to take a commanding 12-4 lead midway through the set. The Wildcats never looked back, winning the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
UP NEXT
The Thunderbirds have a quick turnaround as they will travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on the Tarleton State Texans on Saturday, Oct. 7. The match is slated to begin at 12 p.m. MT.
