CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The first conference game of the season for men's basketball ends in a 66-91 loss at home against the Lancers of Cal Baptist.
"When you are trying to build a program, you are going to have some tough nights, tonight was one of those nights. What's important, is are you able to bounce back from one of those nights, and that will be the true test for this team." Said, Head Coach Rob Jeter.
Game Recap
Despite leading for a good portion of the first half, a three-ball from Scotty Washington would have the Thunderbirds trailing by eight heading to half, and that would lead into a 16-3 run to start the second half for the Lancers, and SUU was never able to bounce back.
CBU's intense perimeter pressure caused all sorts of issues for SUU and made it very tough to get into any kind of rhythm offensively. SUU only attempted nine three-pointers in the game and made just two of them.
Statistical Recap
The Thunderbirds shot a solid 50% from the floor but had 18 fewer shot attempts than the Lancers. SUU only lost the rebounding battle 29 to 35 but the Lancers pulled down 14 offensive rebounds, compared to SUU's six.
The Lancers were able to turn 17 SUU turnovers into 23 points.
Washington led all scorers with a career-high 21 points on a scorching 6-8 from three. Blondeau Tchoukuiegno had 16 for the Lancers on an efficient 6-9 from the field.
Dominique Ford led the way for SUU with 16 points. Parsa Fallah had one of his best games of the season with 14 points and seven rebounds and only missed one shot.
Prophet Johnson also had a solid game with 15 points and six rebounds.
"We knew this was gonna be a tough game, and we handled ourselves in the first half, we just need to put it together for forty minutes, and I and my coaches need to do a better job of helping our team succeed for forty minutes." Said, Jeter.
