ST GEORGE, Utah– The Southern Utah University track and field program capped off a remarkable start to its outdoor season Saturday by snatching two new school records in the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay at the Utah Tech Invitational.
The Thunderbirds brought the heat in both 4x100 meter relays. Ronnie Walker, Iana-Michovani Graham, Maya Benjamin, and Secret Mceuen posted a new record time of 44.50 for the SUU women, destroying the rest of their competition by two seconds. On the men's side, Cameron Beans, Ricardo White, Nelson Douglas, and Noah Bringhurt burned their way to a record-shattering time of 40.33 to also take the top spot in the meet.
Secret Mceuen picked up right where she left off in the Indoor Season by blazing to a time of 11.84 in the 100 meters to move up to third place all-time for Southern Utah. Mceuen also bolted to a 24.16 in the 200 meters, putting her tenths of a second behind the school record in second place all-time.
Ricardo White put together impressive performances in the 100 and 200-meter races. White won the 100 meters with a time of 10.43 to make him sixth all-time for Southern Utah and added onto that showing by jetting to a 21.32 in the 200 meters, which is good for 10th best in program history.
Dylan Gibson dominated the men's 400 meters and dashed his way into the record books with a time of 47.80, pushing him into ninth place all-time for SUU.
Savannah Nielson grabbed a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles by running to a time of 14.09. Nielson's time is the seventh-best in program history.
Southern Utah captured several top finishes in the long jump. Christopher Kappen led the way for the Thunderbirds finishing in second place with a leap of 23'7 ½" to earn eighth in school history. Joren McKeever finished right behind in the third, securing a mark of 23' 1 ½" to clinch ninth in the SUU record books. On the women's side, Ajia Hughes had a stellar outing, leaping to 18' 4 ½" to grab seventh all-time in the Thunderbird record books. Hughes followed up that performance with a leap of 38' 4 ¾" in the triple jump to improve her hold on second place all-time in the event for the Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds corralled three top-five marks in the men's discus. Daniel Krynzel launched a throw of 141'6 ¾" to earn second place, Trenton Maurer took fourth place with a 139'10", and Dominick Vasquez rounded things out in fifth place with a 137' 11 ½".
SUU's women seized three top-five finishes in the javelin. Jentry Skidmore hurled a 138' 8 ¼" to snatch second place, Jackalyn Hatch tossed a 127' 7 ½" for fourth place, and Kaydee Marshall slung a 121'–3 ½" to take fifth place.
