CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Softball team picked up a 12-2 win Wednesday in the series finale with California Baptist. The Thunderbird offense came alive in the game racking up an impressive 12 hits. 

GAME RECAP

Though the Lancers struck first with an early run the T-Birds answered back relentlessly scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, four runs in the second, and six runs in the third. Junior Capri Franzen had an impressive game, driving in four runs on two hits including a towering three-run home run to left center.

Five Thunderbirds picked up multiple hits in the game. Leading the charge was sophomore outfielder Sophia Masut who connected for three hits. First-year student Riley Nielson blasted two hits to drive in four runs in the contest. Junior outfielder Allie Laub also notched a pair of hits and collected two RBIs in the process. 

In the circle, sophomore Keimon Winston was dominant, pitching five strong innings. Winston gave up just five hits in the contest against a potent Lancer lineup. Winston improved her record to 3-7 on the season. Presley Hosick took the loss for California Baptist University. The right-hander allowed five hits and six runs over one and two-thirds innings.

NEXT UP

The Thunderbirds will head North-West to take on Seattle University for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 14, at 4:00 p.m. MT and continuing Saturday, April 15, at 2:00 p.m. MT. The Thunderbirds will look to build on the momentum of this series final as they take on the Redhawks. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
