SAN JOSE, Calif -- Soccer falls to 0-4-4 on the season after a 4-0 loss to the Spartans of San Jose State. 

Two goals in the first 20 minutes for the Spartans made it a daunting task for SUU to try and mount any sort of comeback. Any momentum the T-birds had was thwarted in the 36th minute when Taylor Phillips netted her second goal of the match to go up 3-0 in the first. 

An 84th-minute goal pushed the lead to four and completed a shutout for Shayla Sugai.

"Tough weekend versus two tough teams. Can't sugarcoat anything, we didn't get either of the results that we wanted from this week. Playing a conference champion on the road with our second game of the week, when they have a rest advantage makes it an even harder environment. We play two games in the next three weeks and both will be in Southern Utah. Excited to get back and honor our seniors that have brought so much to the program over the years."

Sammie Sofonia led the team with five shots and one on target. Julia Ortega had four saves on the afternoon.
