CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University women's volleyball team competed against California Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 23, falling in four sets. The Thunderbirds move to 4-8 on the year and 0-2 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Lancers improve to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in WAC play.

MATCH RECAP
The two squads matched each other point for point to begin set one, as they found themselves tied at 12-12. Southern Utah broke ahead with a 4-0 run to take the lead and never looked back, claiming the first set 25-22.
CBU took a 12-7 advantage midway through set two. Hana Makonova recorded one kill and two blocks that sparked a 4-0 run to bring the Thunderbirds within a single point (12-11). Andrea Spasojevic delivered a kill to tie the set at 14-14, but that was as close as the T-Birds would get as the Lancers took the set 25-21.
Makonova stayed hot, racking up three kills and another block to propel the 'Birds to a 12-9 advantage. CBU used an 8-1 burst to take a four point advantage (17-13). The Thunderbirds stormed back to get within one (21-20) late in the set. The Lancers went on to seize the set 25-21.
Carissa Richie poured in three kills to lead the 'Birds in set four, but it wasn't enough as CBU would go on to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-1.
UP NEXT
Southern Utah hits the road next week on Thursday, Sept. 28 with a match against UTRGV. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. MT.
