CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Thunderbirds 2024 season came to a close Saturday, October 26, losing to Utah Tech, 4-0.
Head Coach Kai Edwards said
"Credit to Utah Tech for earning their third straight WAC Tournament spot. Our seniors have changed the expectations of this program and that's why today hurts. I want to thank the players, coaching staff, Erik our athletic trainer, and all the support staff for their great investment of time ino our program. Fall 2025 starts this Monday."
Game Recap
Both teams came into the match needing a win to advance to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, and the Trailblazers earned the spot.
UT opened the scoring early. Just six minutes into the match, Lacy Fox corralled a wild ball into the middle of the box and fired one past Stacy Barresi. Then, in the 32nd minute, Kyah Le found the back of the net, assisted again by Adele Faller.
Bre Koscielski scored on a header from a great corner kick from Kyah Le in the 37th minute, and Kalea Woodyatt scored the fourth goal for the Trailblazers with an assist from Koscielski.
The Thunderbirds didn't go down without a fight, firing eight shots on target, including some from point black range, but Brianna Frey was phenomenal for Utah Tech, stopping all eight shots she faced.
Statistical Recap
Whitney Gardner, playing in her last game as a Thunderbird, did everything she could to keep the T-Birds season alive, putting three of her four shots on target. Chelsea Loeser also had some quality chances, she had two shots, both on frame.
Koscieski and Fox both finished with two shots on goal for UT.
Stacy Barresi finished the game with two saves.
Steph Roper, Adelayo Oguntade, and Jenna Grider played the full 90 for SUU.
The Thunderbirds finish the year with a 2-10-5 record and 0-5-2 in conference play.
