CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbirds are back in Cedar City for the final regular season game of the 2024 campaign. Southern Utah will take on Utah Tech in the Battle for the Axe on Saturday, November 23, in Eccles Coliseum. The game will kick off at 1:00 p.m. MT and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
The Game
The Thunderbirds earned their first ranked win of the season last week, taking down #24 Central Arkansas 38-31 on the road. The T-Birds offense was stellar, and SUU won the turnover battle en route to the road victory. The win brought Southern Utah's record to 6-5 on the year, with a 5-2 mark in conference play. The Trailblazers were stymied by the West Georgia Wolves last week at home. Utah Tech dropped to 1-10 with the loss and now sits at 1-6 on the season against the United Athletic Conference.
The two teams have a lot of history but only a limited number of games in the Division I era. The teams have met five times in the last 15 years, with the Thunderbirds holding a 4-1 advantage. The last time the two teams met resulted in a 24-16 victory for the T-Birds in St. George last season.
