PHOENIX, AZ -- SUU falls to No. 1 seeded GCU on the road, 94-65.
With the loss, SUU drops to 9-15 and 4-9 in conference play. Utah Valley won against Abilene Christian, which means that SUU now sits in ninth place in the WAC standings, just outside the top 8 that make it to WAC Vegas.
"We got beat in every facet of the game tonight. It is one of those losses that you try and just put behind you and gear up for the next game," said Head Coach Rob Jeter.
Game Recap
The Lopes quickly jumped out to a 29-12 lead, and the Thunderbirds could never recover. Taking a 16-point lead into the half, the Lopes extended that to 20 points early in the second half, and the Thunderbirds were never able to cut the lead to less than that.
Statistical Recap
Dominique Ford led the way for SUU, scoring 23 points in the loss on 6-15 shooting and 4-11 from three. Prophet Johnson was the only other Thunderbird to reach double figures, scoring 12 on the night.
Brock Felder is really coming along as a true freshman, having another solid game. He scored eight points on 4-5 from the field and added another three blocks to his resume. Chazz Hutchison led the team in rebounds with six.
No player on the Thunderbirds had more than one assist.
SUU was out-rebounded 50-29. GCU had 21 offensive rebounds compared to just six for the Thunderbirds.
Jovan Blacksher Jr. had 18 points in 18 minutes off the bench on 6-7 from the field and 3-4 from deep.

The Thunderbirds will return to the America First Event Center next week and play host to the Redhawks of Seattle U on Thursday, Feb 15 at 6:30 p.m.
