Arlington, Texas—The Southern Utah Softball team battled but came up short on Saturday in the final game of the series against UT Arlington. The Thunderbirds fell 6-3 to the Mavericks, dropping their conference record to 2-7.
The Thunderbirds scored three runs on five hits in the game. Karmyna Becerra, Arianna Ramirez, and Capri Franzen each scored an RBI to lead the team. Junior Keimon Winston got the start and was tagged with the loss despite giving up just two hits and one run in 2.2 innings. Winston struck out three batters in the effort. Freshman Emily Delgado pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up five runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and striking out four.

Game 1 Summary
Southern Utah clashed with UT Arlington in game three of the series in Arlington. From the outset, both teams showcased their defensive strength, making every run hard-earned.
UT Arlington seized the momentum in the third inning, capitalizing on a crucial error to plate an unearned run. However, Southern Utah refused to back down, staging a gutsy comeback in the sixth frame. Fueled by timely hits and UT Arlington's defensive lapses, Southern Utah ignited their offense, rallying for three runs and injecting a surge of excitement into the contest.
Yet, UT Arlington answered back, responding to Southern Utah's offensive surge. In the bottom of the sixth, the Mavericks scored two pivotal runs to extend their lead back to three runs. Despite Southern Utah's valiant efforts, they couldn't overcome UT Arlington's relentless pressure. With a final score of 6-3 in favor of the Mavericks.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will return home to continue WAC play next weekend. Southern Utah will take on Abilene Christian in a three-game set, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m. MT and wrapping up with a single game on Saturday, April 6, at 12:00 p.m. MT.
