Southern Utah Softball is Presented by Jennifer Davis ERA Realty

CEDAR CITY, Utah— The Thunderbirds won a non-conference game over in-state foe Utah State 10-8 on Wednesday. Southern Utah's bats stayed hot as they scored double-digit runs to win their second straight game. The T-Birds have scored ten or more runs in four out of their last five games.

Leading the Thunderbirds at the plate was sophomore outfielder Alayah Toscano, who picked up three hits and one RBI in the game. Sophomore Emily Gonzalez had impeccable timing today with two crucial hits to drive in three runs. Senior Capri Franzen added to the offensive onslaught with a pinch-hit three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

Junior Keimon Winston earned the victory for the T-birds, pitching four innings and allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out one. Freshman Emily Delgado pitched the back half of the game to seal the win.

Game Summary

Southern Utah clinched a hard-fought victory against Utah State in a high-scoring softball showdown, prevailing 10-8. The game kicked off with Southern Utah taking an early lead in the first inning thanks to junior Karmyna Becerra's decisive home run. They extended their lead in the second inning with Laurie Cooke capitalizing on an error, followed by Emily Gonzalez's triple down the right field line that brought in two more runs, putting the Thunderbirds ahead 4-0.

Despite Southern Utah's strong start, Utah State fought back in the third inning, narrowing the gap with Bunton's homer. However, Southern Utah responded with authority, adding four more runs in the same inning, highlighted by Toscano and Franzen's significant contributions, pushing the lead to 8-2. While Utah State attempted a late rally in the seventh inning, scoring three runs, Southern Utah's lead proved enough to secure the win in a thrilling contest.
