CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah Athletics is proud to announce its partnership with the Thor's Hammer Collective, the official NIL collective of Southern Utah University Athletics. This partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing the lives of student-athletes at SUU while also supporting and promoting local charity partners.
Doug Knuth, Director of Athletics at Southern Utah University, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, "This collaboration with the Thor's Hammer Collective aligns perfectly with our mission to provide comprehensive support for our student-athletes. Not only does it offer valuable opportunities for our athletes to engage with their community and support worthy causes, but it also contributes to the overall success and retention of our student-athletes."
The Thor's Hammer Collective comprises community members and alumni dedicated to leveraging their resources to benefit SUU student-athletes. Through this partnership, the collective will contract SUU student-athletes to utilize their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) on behalf of local charity partners. Student-athletes will engage in various activities, including personal appearances, social media posts, and other NIL initiatives, to raise awareness and encourage donor participation in these charitable causes.
"The focus and core of our organization is charity. We are utilizing our student athletes' names, images, and likenesses to promote and raise awareness for our charity partners. Our student contractors are leaders on their teams and can be pillars in the community. We hope to engage the community through serving it. One important result of the NIL process is student-athlete retention," said Jon Smith, Executive Director of Thor's Hammer Collective. "We believe students who feel valued and connected to their community are far less likely to transfer to another school. By creating an atmosphere at SUU that attracts talented student-athletes, we aim to retain and build a culture of success in competition and in the community."
The Thor's Hammer Collective operates as a 501(c)(3) public charity, ensuring that all donations made to support its initiatives are tax deductible.
