CEDAR CITY, Utah—Southern Utah lost its final home game of the season 4-0 to Utah Valley University. Following the Game, the Thunderbirds recognized the seniors from this season. Southern Utah moves to 19-25 on the season and is battling for a spot in the WAC tournament.
The T-Birds were led at the plate by senior second baseman Miranda Lopez, who had two hits on the day. Sophomore Emily Gonzalez finished the series with an incredible eight hits on the weekend. Gonzalez had three RBIs in the series and hit one home run. Karmyna Becerra, Alayah Toscano, and Lopez each picked up three hits during the three-game set against the Wolverines.
Freshman Emily Delgado got the game-three loss despite pitching well throughout the weekend. Delgado finished the series with 9.1 innings pitched, surrendering six runs on ten hits and striking out six. Sophomore Delany Baker earned the only win of the weekend for the Thunderbirds, pitching seven innings in game one.

"We didn't make the adjustments we needed to offensively, and we missed a lot of opportunities. Our pitchers did their jobs and kept the score close."
Senior Day
The Thunderbirds recognized the seniors from this year's team during this weekend's series against UVU. The Seniors are Shelby Basso, Capri Franzen, Bella Garcia, Miranda Lopez, and Grace Owen. These incredible student-athletes have put their heart and soul into Southern Utah Softball during their time here. We wish them all good luck in their future endeavors.
Game Summary
The Wolverines went out front early in the Sunday matchup with a second-inning RBI by Ry Binne. In the third inning, UVU extended its lead with a double in the gap by Megan Gibbs. The Wolverines would add another run in the fourth to make the score 3-0.
Both teams relied on solid defense to keep the score close, but another run in the sixth inning and solid pitching by UVU's Sapp would secure a 4-0 final score.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will hit the road for the final regular-season series at Tarleton State next weekend. They will take on the Texans in a doubleheader on Friday, May 3, beginning at 4:00 p.m. MT, and wrap up the season with a single game on Saturday, May 5, at 12:00 p.m. MT. The T-Birds are currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in the standings with Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian. The Thunderbirds hold the tiebreaker against both schools.
