"The Riverside Invitational is always a great meet to compete in. It allows me to see who and how the conference team is coming together. It's essential to be ready to compete for that opportunity, and Riverside will enable us to do that."
Last Time Out
SUU began their season with a promising showing at the UVU Invitational on Friday, Aug. 30. The men's team finished second, with four of their racers in the top 20. Junior Nathan Carlin led the way, finishing fourth overall with a time of 14:29.9. Coleman Cragun, Jacob Peterson, and Logan Peele followed close behind, taking eighth, 11th, and 14th place respectively.
For the women, Madisan DeBos took seventh with a time of 17:01.9, while Isabella Evans ran a 17:44.9 to take 24th. Freshman Audrey Hales kicked off her first season with a great race, finishing 34th with a time of 17:56.5.
UC Riverside Invitational
The race will take place at UC Riverside's 420-acre Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station. While the course is seemingly flat, it presents an unassuming amount of elevation gain.
The competition will feature familiar WAC opponents such as Grand Canyon, Utah Tech and Cal Baptist along with other strong programs including Cal Poly and Utah State.
While the Thunderbirds raced at the UVU Invitational, UC Riverside will offer the Southern Utah men's team its first chance to gauge its standing in a longer 8K race.Â
The women's invite will begin their 6K at 8:15 a.m. MT and the men will follow shortly after at 8:50. The open races will begin at 9:25 for the women's 5K and 9:55 for the men's 8K.
