Thunderbirds Fall Short in Pullman

PULLMAN, WASHINGTON -- The Thunderbirds played their third game in just five days against WCC opponent Washington State in Pullman, Washington, falling to the Cougars 74-98.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

"We have to figure out a way to get tougher defensively. I am looking forward to be back in Cedar City, back in the AFEC on Saturday."


Top T-Birds

  • Dylan Jones was phenomenal for the Thunderbirds, scoring 24 points on 9-16 from the floor and 5-10 from three. Just one point shy of his career-high.
  • Jaiden Feroah had 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocks on the night.
  • Tanner Hayhurst scored seven points, grabbed two rebounds, and dished three assists.

HIGHLIGHTS





Game Recap

The Thunderbirds started the game on fire offensively, being led by senior guard Dylan Jones, who subbed into the game and immediately sank back-to-back triples. The Thunderbirds led for nearly eight minutes to start the game, but a 16-5 run in the middle of the first half for the Cougars led to a 54-40 lead at the break.

The second half started with the Thunderbirds nearly cutting the lead to single-digits after a Cale Barclay triple, but WSU immediately responded by going on a 17-2 run and blowing the game open.

The lead ballooned to 28 for the Cougars with 10:05 remaining, but the Thunderbirds showed fight by going on a 9-0 run in just over a minute and a half. Again, the Cougars had an answer, going on a 7-2 run and closing the game for good.


Statistical Recap

The Thunderbirds played well offensively, shooting 48% from the floor and 40% from three.

Defensively is where the T-Birds have struggled this season. The Cougars shot 57% from the floor and 36% from three.

SUU was outscored 32-48 in the paint, and 4-21 on second-chance points.

SUU will finally be back at home this Saturday, November 22, at 6:30 p.m. against Nobel University.
