Three Thunderbirds Named To All-Conference Teams

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Western Athletic Conference announced the WAC Postseason Awards and All-Conference teams prior to the first round of the WAC Postseason Tournament. The Thunderbirds had three players earn spots on All-Conference teams: Sarah Assuma was named to the All-WAC Second-Team, and Dakota Hansen and Sicily Clark were named to the All-WAC Freshman Team.

Head Coach Kai Edwards said

"Sarah has been a mainstay in the starting line up these past two years. She competes at everything she does and has earned a well-deserved award to cap off her career at SUU."

"Sicily and Dakota along with all of our freshman are two hard-working and competitive student-athletes. It is awesome that they have been recognized for their performances during the WAC season. They would be the first to thank their teammates. Big futures for them."

Award

Sarah Assumma led the team in total points this season, scoring four goals and registering three assists for a total of 11 points. She also had 33 shots, 15 of which were on target.

Two of Sarah's four goals came in conference matches, one being the game-winner against Tarleton State on the road and the other coming at home against the Texans in a 1-1 tie.

Sarah started every game she played in. Finishing the season with 16 starts and 1,071 minutes played.

Dakota

Dakota Hansen was phenomenal as a freshman. Recording the third most points on the team with two goals and an assist on the year.

Hansen had a three-point game against Portland State, where she scored a header off a set-piece and assisted a goal from Whitney Gardner. Hansen also scored another header against Abilene Christian in what proved to be a 1-0 game-winner for the Thunderbirds.

Dakota started 13 games for the Thunderbirds and saw action in 15. She logged 1,027 minutes for the T-Birds.

Scily

Sicily Clark led all freshmen in total minutes played this season with an astounding 1,112. She played in all 17 games and started 12.

She never logged less than 60 minutes in any conference match this season, and played the full 90 in three conference matches.

Clark's defense was instrumental in the Thunderbirds' success this season. Her knowledge of the game and determination to succeed will lead to much success in her young career.
