STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS -- SUU couldn't find enough scoring to keep up with the hot-shooting Texans and fell 58-75.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"We know what we have to do to win these ball games with the guys we are missing, and we haven't been able to do it. We are short-handed offensively so we have to be a lot better on the defensive side of the ball."
Top T-Birds
- Jamir Simpson led all scorers with 24 points on 8-15 from the floor, 2-2 from three, and 6-6 from the free throw line.
- Hercy Miller scored 11 points on 7-8 from the free throw line.
- Brock Felder led the team in rebounds with 5 to go along with a block and a steal.
Game Recap
The short-handed T-Birds hung around for a while in the first half, trailing by just four with 10 minutes remaining. But a 10-4 run by the Texans over the next five minutes saw the lead balloon, and they took a 14-point lead into the break.Â
Seven quick points from Simpson cut into the TSU lead, and then back-to-back buckets by Xavier Sykes got it to single digits for the first time in the second half.Â
As has been the case with Dominique Ford and Tavi Jackson out, the Thunderbirds went on an extended scoring drought and were held without a point over the next five minutes, and the lead was back to 18 with 7:30 remaining.Â
SUU was unable to sustain another run and fell to 1-7 in WAC play.
