CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Western Athletic Conference released its postseason 'of the year' awards and Southern Utah's Jamir Simpson earned a spot on the All-Conference Second-Team.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"I am extremely proud of Jamir. He earned this award through his hard work and consistency all season long. He is a guy that we relied on heavily with the injuries that we had, and he has continued to step up. Coming from a DII and earning an all-conference award in a very tough conference is really impressive. So I am proud of him and the work that he put in."
Jamir Simpson led the Thunderbirds in scoring all season long. Averaging just under 17 points per game on shooting splits of 42/34/82. Simpson has stepped up during a tough injury season for the Thunderbirds. He has easily played the most minutes on the team and hasn't missed a game.
He is fourth in the conference in points per game in conference play, at just under 16 ppg, and is top-20 in the conference in rebounding. Simpson also earned WAC Player and Newcomer of the Week recognition back on November, 25.
Simpson has scored double figures in 25 of 30 games this season, including 14 games with 20 points or more.
