Delgado Continues Strong Campaign But T-Birds Drop Doubleheader

Southern Utah Softball is Presented by Jennifer Davis ERA Realty

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Thunderbirds continued WAC play with a doubleheader at Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon. The Thunderbirds played solid defense but struggled to get the bats going, dropping game one 6-0 and falling in the second game 1-0. Southern Utah falls to 7-17 on the year with a 2-3 record against conference opponents.

Southern Utah was led at the plate by Arianna Ramirez, who tallied multiple hits during the day. In the circle sophomore Emily Delgado pitched a gem in game two. Delgado threw a complete game, giving up one run on five hits and striking out two in the effort.

Coach Don Don Williams Said

"Today was an underperformance of our offense. We did not make the adjustments we needed pitch by pitch."

Game One Summary

Game one of the series got off to a slow start for the T-Birds. The Wildcats started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when they posted a crooked number taking a 4-0 lead.

Abilene Christian added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend its lead to 6-0, which would hold for the final score.

Game Two Summary

Southern Utah started game two by getting its first hit of the day. The frame was over just as fast though as the Thunderbirds were unable to take advantage of the early baserunner.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Wildcats scored first and had the bases loaded, but Emily Delgado pitched herself out of the jam with a quick double play.

Southern Utah loaded the bases up with one out in the top of the fourth inning but Abilene got out of the jam with a heads up play to get the lead runner before the Thunderbirds flew out to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, the Thunderbirds attempted to manufacture a run with a double steal, but a perfect throw by the Wildcats' shortstop led to an out at the plate. That would be the closest the T-Birds would come to scoring, as ACU held on to win 1-0.
