CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Women's Basketball team and Head Coach Tracy Mason have announced the hiring of Advit Raghavan to join the Women's Basketball staff as an assistant coach. Raghavan was with the Thunderbirds as the director of basketball operations from 2021 to 2023.
Head Coach Tracy Mason said
"Advit is a tremendous addition to our staff. He was a big part of our championship run when we went to the NCAA tournament. He is an absolute worker, loves the game, and is very connected in the Women's basketball world. We've had the opportunity to work together for two years so I know this will be a very smooth transition for our program."
Advit begins his first season as an assistant coach back at Southern Utah.
Before his return, he was the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at both Cal State Northridge from 2023-2024 and Cal State Bakersfield from 2024-2025.
While at Northridge, he primarily worked with the post players, where he helped develop All-Big West post player Kayanna Spriggs.
During his stint at Bakersfield, primarily working with the wings, he assisted in multiple players finishing in the top 10 in the conference in several key categories, including 3-point percentage.
Raghavan rejoins the SUU program after spending 2021-23 as the director of basketball operations. During his first year, he helped the T-Birds to a second-place finish in the Big Sky Conference. In his second year, Southern Utah moved to the Western Athletic Conference, where he played an instrumental part in SUU winning the WAC regular season and Tournament titles as the program made its first NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament appearance.
Raghavan also played a hand in the development of All-Conference guards Cherita Daugherty, Tomekia Whitman, 2023 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Lizzy Williamson, and WAC All-tournament selection Megan Jensen.
Before his time at Southern Utah, Raghavan was an assistant coach at Pacific University (Ore.). While at Pacific, he assisted in a complete program turnaround, helping the team go from 8 to 17 wins during the 2019-20 season, and the program's first home Northwest Conference playoff appearance since 1996 and tournament appearance since 2009.
After playing, Raghavan began coaching at Northern Arizona as a graduate assistant for the women's basketball team. A native of San Jose, Calif., Raghavan played four seasons of men's basketball at the University of Puget Sound.
Raghavan said
"When Tracy called me about the opportunity to return it was a no brainer decision. This place is home and has been very special for me during my previous stint. I am super excited to get back to work and will do whatever it takes to get back to where this program can be."
