Game Recap
First Half
Southern Utah opened the game on an 8-2 run that included beautifully orchestrated back-to-back Thunderbirds fast breaks. Freshman Devyn Kiernan drained a triple to push to a seven-point lead, and SUU continued to rally. With the first quarter nearing a close, sophomore Sierra Chambers tallied two fast-break and-one layups to push her team up 21-13.
Kiernan sank another three-pointer for her team, but the Thunderbirds' scorching offense quieted down to start the second. Sophomore Denver Anderson was the only player from either team to score a basket for nearly six minutes, but two late buckets from junior Ava Uhrich bumped it to 30-24 before halftime.
Second Half
Senior Ashley Banks cashed in a pair of layups during a dominant 9-4 run, but the Mavericks battled to stay in range of their opponent, cutting it back to a six-point game. Despite a 13 point third-quarter from Uhrich and an incredible last second shot from sophomore Kortney Doman, UTA trailed only 53-47 with a quarter to go.
Scoring the Thunderbirds' first five points of the final quarter, Uhrich not only tied her career-high performance with six minutes to spare, but boosted her team to a double-digit advantage. Southern Utah carried their momentum to a clear 77-68 triumph and picked up their third-straight win.
