OGDEN, Utah - Southern Utah goalkeeper Tatum Trout recorded six saves, and the Thunderbirds generated four second-half shots before falling 1-0 to Weber State on Sunday, October 11, at Wildcat Soccer Field.
SUU held the Wildcats scoreless through the opening 71 minutes and created several opportunities to equalize down the stretch, including a penalty kick and two late corner kicks.
Trout Anchors Defensive Effort
Trout collected three saves in each half, helping Southern Utah reach halftime in a scoreless tie. She stopped shots in the eighth, 24th and 30th minutes before adding another save in the 58th minute to keep the match level.
Weber State scored the contest's lone goal at 71:48, with Lily Blum finishing an opportunity assisted by Isabelle Dahl.
Trout responded with saves at 78:03 and 82:55, keeping the Thunderbirds within a goal throughout the closing minutes. Her six stops brought her season total to 56.
Ashlyn Woodbury, Rylan Tebbs and Brooklyn Bradley each played the full 90 minutes alongside Trout, while Nao Yasuda contributed 83 minutes.
Southern Utah Creates Second-Half Chances
The Thunderbirds doubled their shot production after halftime, registering four attempts and putting two on target. SUU also earned all three of its corner kicks in the second half, finishing with a 3-2 advantage in that category.
Kayleigh Acree tested the Wildcats' goalkeeper with a shot toward the lower-right portion of the goal at 58:56. Halle Cowan added an attempt in the 66th minute.
Southern Utah earned a penalty kick at 83:32, but Gracen Blieschke's attempt was saved. The Thunderbirds continued seeking the equalizer, earning a corner at 83:48 before Acree recorded another shot at 87:59 and SUU added its final corner at 88:24.
Acree and Blieschke paced Southern Utah with two shots apiece, each recording one attempt on goal. Cowan and Madeline Buczyna contributed one shot each.
Record Watch
Blieschke remains within reach of Southern Utah's single-season assists record. Her four assists leave her two shy of Riley Bassett's program mark of six, established in 2011. One additional assist would match the five-assist seasons recorded by Shelby Green in 2015 and Annie Payne in 2002.
Southern Utah also continues its pursuit of several team season records. Through Sunday's match, the Thunderbirds have scored 25 goals, six short of the program record of 31 set in 2022. SUU's 21 assists leave the team five shy of the record of 26 established in 2014.
With 71 points, Southern Utah is 16 short of the single-season record of 87 set in 2022. Points are calculated as two per goal and one per assist.
Defensively, the Thunderbirds have five team shutouts this season, three short of the program record of eight set in 2022. Trout has three individual shutouts, with Megan Short's six in 2022 standing as the goalkeeper single-season record.
