The Thunderbirds sit tied for 15th among 19 teams following the opening round at Boulder Creek Golf Club's Desert Hawk-Coyote Run course. Southern Utah is two strokes behind the teams tied for 12th, with two rounds remaining in the tournament hosted by Northern Arizona.

Head Coach Caylyn McKinlay Said

"We had a good first day and have some good momentum heading into tomorrow. I'm proud of how we competed today and it's a start we can build off of. We have another good opportunity tomorrow to go out, trust our plan, and keep fighting for every shot. I'm excited to see what this group can do in round 2."

May Leads With Five Birdies

May recorded five birdies and 11 pars on the par-72, 6,429-yard course, earning a share of 18th place.

She took advantage of the par 5s, birdieing Nos. 5, 13 and 16 while making par at No. 9. That gave her a combined 3-under score on the course's four par 5s.

May also birdied the par-4 third and 15th. Her scorecard featured a bogey-free performance on holes 10–18, where three birdies and six pars added up to a 3-under 33. She played holes 1–9 at even par, balancing two birdies with two bogeys.

Her 69 gave Southern Utah an under-par counting score and placed her within the top 20 entering Monday's second round.

Langlois Eagles No. 16

Langlois supplied one of Southern Utah's highlights with an eagle at the 540-yard, par-5 16th, helping her post an even-par 72 and tie for 41st.

Her 3 at No. 16 paired with a birdie at the par-4 third. She added 13 pars, including pars at the other three par 5s, to play the course's longest holes in a combined 2 under.

Langlois recorded a 1-under 35 on holes 10–18 and a 1-over 37 on holes 1–9. Her eagle was Southern Utah's only one of the opening round.

Johnson Provides a Steady Counting Round

Jaden Johnson contributed a 1-over 73 to sit tied for 54th.

Johnson recorded 15 pars, the most among Southern Utah's five players. Her lone birdie came at the 480-yard, par-5 ninth, helping her play the four par 5s in a combined 1 under.

With just two bogeys on her card, Johnson played holes 1–9 at even-par 36 and holes 10–18 in 1-over 37. Her score gave the Thunderbirds three players at 1 over or better.

Luangnam Adds Three Birdies

Siriporn (Orchid) Luangnam recorded three birdies during a 4-over 76, placing her in a tie for 85th.

Like May, Luangnam birdied the par-5 fifth, 13th and 16th. She made par at the remaining par 5, No. 9, to play those four holes in a combined 3 under.

Luangnam posted matching scores of 38 on each nine and supplied Southern Utah's fourth counting score. Across the four counting players, the Thunderbirds played the par 5s in a combined 9 under.
