Trout Makes Seven Saves as Thunderbirds Close Lindquist's First Season

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Freshman goalkeeper Tatum Trout made seven saves, but Southern Utah women's soccer fell 2-0 to Utah Tech in its season finale on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Thunderbird Soccer Field.

The Thunderbirds (5-10-3, 2-5-2 Big Sky) matched the Trailblazers with 14 shots and outshot them 10-9 in the second half in the final match for seniors Nao Yasuda and Kayleigh Acree and likely the last for redshirt junior Ashtyn Ivey.

Second-Half Push

SUU took 10 of its 14 shots after halftime. Freshman Gracen Blieschke led the Thunderbirds with five shots, two on goal, and Acree added three shots in her final start. Freshman Sofia Alcorn put a shot on target in 13 minutes off the bench.

Utah Tech scored at 27:33 on a Lataya Brost goal from Ella Rusick and added an unassisted goal by Jocelyn Wright at 62:10.

Trout made three saves in the first half and four in the second. She started all 18 matches as a freshman and finished the season with 88 saves.

Senior Farewell

Yasuda, a defender from Osaka, Japan, played all 90 minutes and closes her SUU career having started all 35 matches she played over two seasons. She led the Thunderbirds with 1,489 minutes this fall.

Acree, a forward from Tacoma, Wash., made her 35th career appearance and ninth start of the season. Ivey, a forward from Edgewood, Ky., had three goals and seven points in her first year as a Thunderbird and likely her final season, including a hat trick against Justice on Sept. 6.

Tebbs Ties Cedar City Mark

Junior defender Rylan Tebbs made her 40th career start, tying Rachael Hunt (2020-22) for the most by a Cedar City native. Tebbs played all 90 minutes and extended her Cedar City record to 48 career appearances.

Tebbs was one of seven Thunderbirds to start all 18 matches, along with Brooklyn Bradley, Dakota Hansen, Suika Shibutani, Trout, Ashlyn Woodbury and Yasuda. Those seven, Blieschke and Halle Cowan each played more than 1,000 minutes.

A Season of Progress

In head coach Steven Lindquist's first season, the Thunderbirds scored 30 goals, the second-most in program history and more than double their total from 2025 (14). Only the 2022 team (31) scored more.

SUU allowed 26 goals, its fewest since 2022, after giving up 48 last season. The five wins and 24 assists are the program's most since 2022.

The Thunderbirds returned to the Big Sky with conference wins over Portland State (1-0, Oct. 4) and at Eastern Washington (3-2, Oct. 22), their first Big Sky road win since Oct. 24, 2021, at Sacramento State.

Freshman forward Ashlyn O'Malley led the team with seven goals and 16 points, and Blieschke added five goals, four assists and 14 points, giving SUU a young core to build on in 2027.
